Early this morning, Jack Nicklaus hit their ceremonial tee shots off the 1st at Augusta National, and paid tribute to the missing person - The King. It was an emotional time, these old warhorses without their long time friend and competitor. Tradition is The Masters, the event may not be very old as compared to say The Open, but Augusta National stand on tradition without exception.
Dustin Johnson has been ruled after taking a fall on some stairs earlier in the week, such a shame for the World #1, he tried with his physio to get his lower back sorted but in the end he was simple unable to to swing freely. We wish him all the best with his recovery.
When the ceremonies were finished it was time for action, with round one in really difficult conditions, wind gusts of 25-30 mph make these greens almost unplayable. Its an indication of how amazing these players are when we 14 players below par at this stage (we expect this number will fall to just a handful by day end).
Russell Henley - last weeks winner is in at -1 and that's a great effort, look for him to feature. At the time of writing Thomas Peiters, Justin Rose, William McGirt and Matt Fitzpatrick are all tied at -2.
It is likely that today's play may be stopped at some point with many trees down around the area due to the high winds. Once the gusts get to certain point the balls will start blowing off the greens.
