Masters Saturday Rundown, Some Surprising Stats...

What a day at Augusta!

With the winds abating and brilliant sunshine baking the Augusta layout, some of finest players in the world have risen to the top of the leaderboard. After possibly rinsing his chances on day 1 and signing for 75, 2015 winner Jordan Spieth found himself languishing 10 behind with work to do. His tenacity was absolutely on show with a fighting 69 yesterday backed up by a stellar 68 to sit 4 under and right back in contention. He’s not Tiger but his record is pretty sharp, just like his mind.

What to look for tomorrow…

Justin Rose displayed his major talent, he’s a quality player, and he’s done it before. The stats don’t lie, Rose is 34 under for weekend rounds in Majors since 2012, the best of any player in that time-span, plus he leads the field in birdies with 16. On top of that: 75% of all Masters Champions were either 1st or 2nd heading into the last round.

Rickie Fowler had an amazing round, he’s in contention for sure, this is the 5th time he has been inside the top 3 through 54 holes in a major, and is leading the field with 8 birdies on the par 5’s through 3 rounds.

Sergio for the 13th time is in the final round of a major in the top 5, resulting in 12 top 5’s and no wins in 74 majors!

Jordan is obviously in great shape, he’s a street fighter, after being 10 back on Thursday he now finds himself just a couple behind he has played the 26 holes in 8 under but no player has won The Masters making 8 or more on one hole. Will his 9 at 15 on Thursday come back to haunt him?

Adam Scott is lurking 3 back, after shooting a bogey free 69, he knows what a green jacket feels like, as does Charl Schwartzel, and don’t count out Ryan Moore who has quietly moved into contention.

With all that said; our pick is Justin Rose who finished 2nd two years ago and would (should he win) join Ben Hogan as the only other player to win majors at both Merion and Augusta.

What a day to look forward to!
