Sometimes in life, you get a special day - I suspect most days at MPCC are special! This is a truly amazing experience, two incredible courses and a private members club on a grand scale.
The Dunes is the recently renovated lesser known of the 2 courses, but not for long, with the redesign of the original Seth Raynor layout now complete, the accolades for Tom Fazio and David Khan seem sure to flow.
Having never seen the course in its old form, its hard to tell what it was., one suspects it became very parkland style and the renovation has uncovered the dunes in all their glory.
The course reminds me of Pebble Beach is some ways, it has a nice flow. The early holes ease you into your round with it too much stress, but from 4 onward things get pretty testing. Hole number 8 is a brutal hole, guarded by a creek all the way down the left side, lay up if you must and things get narrow near the green.
Holes 10 and 14 could be as good a pair of par threes anywhere in the planet, both are demanding and have stunning views. The 14th in particular is special, being on the ocean side of 17 mile drive, there is always a crowd watching your tee shot, no doubt all wishing it was them!
Every hole from 14 onward is excellent as the designer returns you to the clubhouse you are left wishing you could go again. The clubhouse facilities, staff, food and welcoming members are all first rate - what a day indeed.
Below is a video flyover, the course at this stage was still under construction, at the time of writing things are almost finished at The Dunes, just some final touches were being made to the 18th.
